Omi Privé Also Named Grand Prize Winner of
First W Magazine Readers’ Choice Award
(Los Angeles, CA—April 2013) Omi Privé’s tsavorite and diamond platinum ring design has been named the “Best Platinum over $10,000” in the Sixth Annual JCK Jewelers’ Choice Awards. Hailed as the industry’s highest honor, the Jewelers’ Choice Awards, presented by JCK Magazine, honor excellence in jewelry design and craftsmanship in a variety of categories. Voting is held online through JCK’s web site, where all retail jewelers cast votes for their favorites over a three-month duration. Omi Privé’s pink sapphire and diamond 3-stone rose gold ring was also recognized as a finalist in the category of “Best Bridal $5,001-$10,000.”
The winning tsavorite ring is handcrafted in platinum, and was designed specifically for the center 7.10 carat cushion-cut tsavorite garnet. It is accented with 0.85 carats of brilliant round diamonds. Niveet Nagpal, head designer and President of Omi Privé, describes the gemstone as the inspiration for the piece, “This tsavorite emanates a multitude of hues like few garnets we have seen. It is rare in size, color and brilliance. We sought to create a ring design as unique as its mint-green color, but that would not overshadow the rarity and beauty of the stone itself.”
This year also marks the start of a unique consumer award that was organized to honor Jewelers’ Choice finalists. After voting concluded for the Jewelers’ Choice Awards, JCK submitted the top 10 “jewelers’ favorites” to W Magazine for further participation in the W Magazine Readers’ Choice Award. W Magazine readers voted, and selected Omi Privé’s platinum tsavorite ring as the winner.
“It is an honor that the 7.10 carat tsavorite ring has been acclaimed amongst our industry’s top jewelers. We were especially humbled when it was also chosen by the readers of W Magazine. We are thrilled that this rare gemstone can now be showcased as an Omi Privé winner!” remarks Nagpal.

Manager of Fine Jewelry, Omi Privé
A great amount of time has elapsed since my last entry; however, this is due to a hectic (and exciting) start of the year! From aiding in the selection of loose gemstones at the AGTA Gem Fair in Tucson to contemplating new design ideas with our head designer, Niveet Nagpal, I have enjoyed every minute of placing up-and-coming pieces into Privé production! While I cannot wait to reveal all of the exciting additions to the line in the next few months, for now, I would like to address a subject that is definitely noticeable in the fashion – and retail – sector: the reemergence of rose gold.
It is true that mixed metals has been an ongoing trend, represented in all facets of the jewelry industry – from costume to couture. Whether worn alone, or used with other tones of gold in mixed-metal pieces, rose gold has certainly carried a strong presence into 2013. In the last nine months, the industry has seen the reentry of this tinted metal that has conveniently managed to subside over the decades, but has definitively resurfaced.
Rose gold first gained popularity in the beginning of the nineteenth century in Russia, and was earmarked at the time as Russian Gold. It became popular in the United States in the 1920’s. With the use of copper as the main alloy, this gold mixture gained its name from the pink hue it emanates.
Like most women, I love rose gold. There is a warm quality about the metal tone that makes it different enough to be unique, but still valuable and classic enough to withstand capsizing trends. It is perfect for today’s high jewelry consumer, who seeks individuality without compromise of quality.
Omi Privé customers epitomize this. Many new pieces in the Omi Privé collection have been designed entirely in 18K rose gold, as it ideally compliments pink and orange gemstones, from fancy colored sapphire and spinel to fine rubellite or spessartite garnet.

We are happy to present the second entry in the 2013 MJSA Online Design Challenge, submitted by Malak Atut of New York City. Omi Gems offered up a beautiful cushion shaped 3.18 carat alexandrite with strong color change as the inspiration for this year’s Online Design Challenge. Throughout the year, nine designers are challenged to create an engagement ring design surrounding a fictional story of a young Russian couple, Galina and her boyfriend Michael, who are chasing the “American Dream”.
Malak created a rose gold engagement ring that would fit perfectly between two pavé-set diamond wedding bands. “My objective was to design something that was meaningful, worthy of the alexandrite, and aesthetically perfect for Galina—the real-life Russian doll,” said Malak. The alexandrite in Malak’s design is cradled by demantoid garnet crosses with rose-cut diamond centers intersecting where moonstones meet, representing Galina’s strong Russian roots.
The entire story behind Malak’s inspired design as well as more sketches can be seen on MJSA.org. At Omi Gems we have one of the largest inventories of loose alexandrite available. Please call us at 877.OMI.GEMS for all your loose gemstone needs!
During the 85th Academy Awards last night, it seemed that all the rage on the red carpet was “neutral.” We saw lots of beige, creme and silver. We were happy to see however, that a few stunning (and brave) actresses sported their true colors along with some Omi Privé fine jewelry!
A few other actresses were spotted wearing color and brightening up the 2013 Oscars:
Always stunning, Jennifer Garner chose a fabulous Gucci gown reminiscent of Pantone’s Fall color, Acai. An alexandrite ring would be the perfect compliment to a dress like Jennifer’s, as it would highlight the natural purple hues in the nighttime and onstage lighting.
Red hot on the red carpet, Jennifer Aniston could “Samba” all night rocking this hot Pantone color! Of course, rubies are the classic choice to pair with the red of Jennifer Aniston’s dress. We think this ruby and diamond bracelet featuring 13 deep red round rubies would be the perfect compliment!
Reese Witherspoon should have wowed the crowd with a stunning sapphire cocktail ring. That would have definitely popped on the red carpet with her electric blue gown!
Correspondant for the Today show, Maria Menounos, glows in pinks similar to Pantone Fall 2013 color “Vivacious.” Pink sapphire, spinel or pink tourmaline all provide vibrant pink hues.
Keep up with red carpet styles by showing your color! View all of the Fall Pantone colors here, and when you’re looking for those colors to compliment an ensemble, view the Omi Privé collection on our website.
